A year of resilience and united strength<\/h2>\r\n

Thank you so much to all the organizations and individuals who have joined us in the last year in our work to end hunger and poverty in Ontario. We often say, and genuinely mean it, that we couldn’t do our work without you! This year, that feels even more true.<\/p>\r\n

The past year has been a rollercoaster of unimaginable challenges and incredible successes for both Feed Ontario and our network. Like everyone, we’ve had to work hard to overcome the additional pressures the COVID-19 pandemic has put on our communities and our work to support them. But this hard work has led to incredible successes as we and our member food banks and partners have quickly adapted and developed innovative new ways of serving our communities.<\/p>\r\n

In addition to expanding our regular food and community programs and enhancing member services this year, Feed Ontario rose to meet the demand of our network. We launched two new food programs, two new food bank grant programs, two virtual member training series, personal food bank wellness checks, best practices and toolkits, and facilitated local distribution and execution for a number of national food and funding programs in partnership with Food Banks Canada.<\/p>\r\n

In total, we distributed nearly five times<\/em> the amount of food we would in an average year and invested hundreds of thousands of dollars directly into local food banks. We also continued to use our data and research, while working with government and communities, to develop long term solutions to hunger and poverty.<\/p>\r\n

But we could not have scaled up this quickly or effectively without your help!<\/p>\r\n

In the last year we have been positively overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of individuals and organizations across Ontario – just like you. At a time when many were facing challenges of their own, thousands of donors and partners stood with us to support our province’s most vulnerable – including many joining us for the very first time. Thank you!<\/p>\r\n

The following report highlights some of the incredible impact your support helped achieve in the last year for the 537,000 Ontarians facing hunger. I hope you are as proud as I am of what we’ve been able to accomplish together.<\/p>\r\n

FeedON: Growing food distribution amidst a pandemic<\/h2>\r\n

With your increased support, our FeedON network has provided adults, seniors, and children across Ontario with tens of millions of nutritious meals this year.<\/em><\/p>\r\n

29 million pounds of nutritious food (that’s as heavy as the Brooklyn Bridge!)<\/h3>\r\n

With the increased support of our generous food and financial donors and transportation partners, in 2020-21 Feed Ontario distributed more than 9 million pounds of food through our regular food programming, and an additional 20 million pounds through new COVID-19 response programs. Altogether, we distributed over 29 million pounds of food in 2020-21. That equates to over 24 million meals – an increase of nearly 4 million meals in our regular food programs and 20 million more meals than in 2019-20 across all programs.<\/p>\r\n

This year we continued our commitment to fresh, nutritious food by sourcing quality items that support a balanced diet for people accessing food banks. More than half of the food we distributed through our regular programs was fresh or frozen. This included meat, eggs, dairy, fruit, and vegetables!<\/p>\r\n
