Feed Ontario Impact Report 2021-22<\/p>\r\n\t\n
A message from our outgoing and incoming Chairs<\/strong><\/p>\r\n “Together, we continued to create space at the table for Ontario’s diverse communities with more food staples, capacity building, education and training, as well as research and tools to help achieve an Ontario where no one goes hungry.”<\/em><\/p>\r\n Read the full message<\/a> Expand<\/i><\/a><\/p>\r\n Thank you so much for your continued support in 2021-22. Your partnership makes ending poverty and hunger in Ontario possible.<\/p>\r\n While the last year seemed to carry fewer curveballs than 2020, the communities and food banks we serve continued to face challenges, leading to the biggest single-year increase in food bank use in a decade.<\/p>\r\n With your support, Feed Ontario and our network of food banks worked tirelessly to meet the growing demand and adapt to our “new normal.” Together, we continued to create space at the table for Ontario’s diverse communities with more food staples, capacity building, education and training, as well as research and tools to help achieve an Ontario where no one goes hungry.<\/p>\r\n Retiring our COVID-19 Emergency Response programs, we put greater investment into ongoing food purchasing to further supplement food donations, growing pounds of food distributed to 144% that of pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\r\n We also grew our network with more food banks reaping the benefits of our partnerships and industry-leading programs, including in Northern Ontario, and further enhanced our service of the north by launching our Northern Food Strategy.<\/p>\r\n Across the province, we increased fresh food options through our fresh food and food transformation programs, continued to invest in food bank capacity through our Feeding Possibility! grant, and introduced new training and support opportunities for member food banks that will make deep impact in hundreds of communities.<\/p>\r\n We also pushed harder for true solutions to hunger and poverty with more research, public tools, and partnerships with government and organizations working to reduce poverty in our province.<\/p>\r\n Through it all, as a faithful supporter, you were there with us. Thank you!<\/p>\r\n The following report highlights some of the incredible achievements your generosity accelerated over the last year. At a time when so many businesses and household incomes were shrinking, you helped grow space at the table for all Ontarians.<\/p>\r\n On behalf of the 1,200 hunger relief organizations and nearly 600,000 individuals facing hunger who we serve, thank you!<\/p>\r\n Ryan Noble (Past Chair) & Meghan Nicholls (Incoming Chair)<\/p>\r\n <\/p>\r\n From securing fresh and healthy food sources, to driving change through policy research and innovative programming, Feed Ontario unites food banks, industry partners, and local communities in our work to end hunger and poverty.<\/p>\r\n “Last month through our Partners in Mission Food Bank in Kingston I received your Farm to Food bell pepper soup.\u00a0 It was delicious and my grandson loved it so much. He is 4 years old and a very picky eater but kept saying how delicious this soup is”<\/em><\/p>\r\n Visitor, Partners in Mission Food bank – Kingston<\/p>\r\n 8,188,407 pounds of food delivered to food banks across Ontario<\/p>\r\n 592,308 adults, seniors, and children accessed a food bank in Ontario<\/p>\r\n 3,683,305 visits to a food bank in Ontario<\/p>\r\n $594,335 invested in innovative local programs and the food bank network<\/p>\r\n 1,200 hunger-relief organizations working together<\/p>\r\n 10,000 postcards calling for affordable housing sent to MPPs<\/p>\r\n “Longo’s is dedicated to fueling happy and healthier lives, and our partnership with Feed Ontario is one of the ways we can help families meet their needs. Everyone deserves access to nutritious, quality food and with the support of Feed Ontario we can assist our communities facing food insecurity challenges by providing pantry staples”<\/em><\/p>\r\n Christie Contini, Community Relations – Longo’s<\/p>\r\n With your support, we FeedON by providing food banks with fresh food and pantry staples throughout the year so that every Ontarian has access to the food they need.<\/em><\/p>\r\n Following a truly extraordinary year in 2020, Feed Ontario focused on building sustainability, capacity, and effectiveness in our year-round food programming in 2021-22. Listening to feedback from food banks and individuals, we focused on the core challenges communities faced.<\/p>\r\n In response to ongoing pandemic-related challenges and growing affordability issues, 44% more food was distributed last year than in the year leading up to the pandemic. This year, Feed Ontario put a stronger focus on non-perishable and pantry staples to help food banks ensure no family went without basics like pasta, rice, cereal, and more.<\/p>\r\n Fresh Food Programs continued to receive important investments, with 49% of all food distributed in 2021-22 being fresh or frozen. Provincial partners from the milk, egg, chicken, beef, pork, and turkey industries provided 3.5 million pounds of high-quality, Ontario raised and processed protein and dairy. To ensure that food banks in northern, remote, areas of the province benefit from these Fresh Food Programs without additional transportation costs, a new Northern Food Subsidy Pilot was launched.<\/p>\r\nWho we are<\/h2>\r\n
