Hunger Action Month is a national campaign that was started here in Ontario by Feed Ontario and run in partnership with local food banks.

Feed Ontario held a press conference on September 10 to release a new piece of record-breaking data: over 1 million people in Ontario visited a food bank in the last year. This is the eighth consecutive year that food bank use has risen and the number of people relying on a food bank has nearly doubled from just 3 years ago.

Food banks were only ever intended to help people in times of emergency. With this added strain, food banks across Ontario are reaching capacity, and Feed Ontario is calling on the provincial government to act now to invest in affordable housing, create quality jobs, and rebuild our social support programs so that food banks don't have to bear the pressure of a broken social safety net. During the month of September, we encourage the public to take action to end hunger in their communities and across Ontario in four key ways:

Take Action against Hunger

Educate

Spend a month in someone else’s shoes to learn about the difficult choices people are making every day to make ends meet.

Ontarian’s can’t stay afloat. Use our simple tools to reach out to your elected representatives to take bold action on poverty.

Volunteer

Find a food bank in your community to lend your time and talent to helping ensure no one goes hungry.

Advocate

 Ontarian’s can’t stay afloat and it’s time to take bold action.  

Hunger is a symptom of poverty. Incomes in Ontario are not keeping pace with the cost of living, leaving more and more people relying on food banks to keep food on their table. 

Get involved:  

  • Join the call for action on poverty by emailing your MPP. Feed Ontario is calling on the government to improve social assistance, invest in affordable housing, and build a stronger workforce. 

Volunteer

You can lend your time and talents to your local food bank in many ways, including:

  • Getting a group of co-workers together for a food drive or fundraiser
  • Using your skills (or learning new ones) to help advance their mission
  • Making a weekly commitment to sort food
  • Attending one of their many events happening during Hunger Action Month!

Have your cake and eat it too! During this campaign, the Cheesecake Factory will donate 25 cents from each slice sold of their Triple Berry Bliss Cheesecake.

Nutty Hero’s initiative ‘Hero for Good’ is committed to donate a potion of their sales proceeds. For every food or gear item sold, Nutty Hero will donate 1% of their net sales to Feed Ontario.

Donate a Car Canada

When you donate your car, truck, RV, boat, or motorcycle to Feed Ontario through Donate a Car Canada, it will either be recycled or sold at auction, with net proceeds directed to Feed Ontario.
