A Letter From Josh

Letter that reads: Dear Carolyn Stewart, My name is Josh. I’m 10 years old and go to Birch Grove elementary. I’m writing because I’m worried about my friend. My best friend is Tyler and we’re in the same grade 4 class. We both like video games and soccer. He is really good at science class. His parents can’t always have food for him to eat, but at school they have lunch and snacks for him at recess. School is out soon and it made me wonder where Tyler will get lunch from. Not having enough food everyday is like having shards of glass in your stomach. The pain is so bad. I don’t want Tyler to be hungry. I learned in school that food banks help people which is why I am writing this letter. Do food banks help kids too? I want Tyler to have a fun summer and to be able to eat all his meals so he is not hungry. Sincerely, Josh

You can be the reason we tell Josh he doesn’t have to worry about his friend.

Josh’s letter is a heartbreaking reminder that far too many families - like Tyler’s - have to rely on school meal and snack programs to feed their kids. But when school is out, those supports disappear.

Your generosity allows food banks to step up and fill the gaps. It means that food banks can offer support families that turn to them, providing meal programs like breakfast clubs and mobile markets, where parents can bring home fresh produce and healthy snacks for their kids.

Right now, your gift will have double the impact. This summer, Turkey Farmers of Ontario will match every dollar you donate, up to $10,000. That means your gift will go even further – and provide twice as many meals - for the kids who need it the most.
