Dennis has been a dedicated volunteer at a food bank since he retired five years ago. But as time went on, he got more and more concerned about the number of young working people he saw coming to the food bank for support.

Noah is one of them. He’s a recent graduate who’s working in a coffee shop to get by while looking for a job in his field. Even though he takes every shift he can, he just can’t get enough hours to make ends meet, and he hasn’t heard back from any of the many positions he’s applied for - often leaving him with no choice but to turn to the food bank for help.

Noah’s story is another reminder of how many young people don’t have the same opportunities that were once available. There are over a quarter of a million people in Ontario like Noah – who’s work just doesn’t provide enough income for them to afford all their basic necessities.

Food banks need your help to be there to when people have nowhere else to turn. Your generosity can make it possible for us to support people with jobs across the province working hard to put food on the table - and offer them the hope to keep going.

How does Feed Ontario use my donation?

Your donation will help send nutritious food to more than 1,200 hunger-relief organizations across the province, on an equitable basis, throughout the year. Your generosity also provides food banks with resources and training to build capacity and better serve their communities, and supports Ontario's food bank network to develop lasting solutions to hunger in partnership with government, industry, and local communities.

For every $1 you donate, 95 cents goes directly to programs and services, and 5 cents helps Feed Ontario ensure our efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability through fundraising and administration.

Is donating online secure?

Will I get a tax receipt for my donation?

Yes! One-time donations made online will receive an automatic email with your e-receipt at the email address you provide. All monthly donations in a calendar year will be collated into one receipt and mailed to you in February of the following year. Donations received via mail will be receipted at the start of the following month and posted to the address provided.

How does every dollar equal two meals?

For every one dollar donated, Feed Ontario can provide the equivalent of two meals. As a province-wide organization Feed Ontario can use economies of scale and bulk purchasing to secure lower rates on our food costs. We further supplement this through the strong partnerships we have developed with Ontario's food and transportation sectors, which provide us with discounted, at-cost, and donated services and food.

We calculate the cost of a meal by looking at operating costs and how much food is donated to Feed Ontario. Operating expenses include costs to collect, store, and transport food to our member food banks.

We divide the total number of pounds of food donated by the cost of operating and delivering donations to food banks across the province.

Who can I contact with donation questions?

How can I facilitate a group donation?

If you are looking to make a single, consolidated donation on behalf of multiple individuals, each requiring individual tax receipts, we would request you to donate via EFT, wire transfer or cheque. Unfortunately, our system is not currently set-up to facilitate this online, but our Development Team would be happy to support you!
