About the program

What began as the “Donate-A-Hog” program in 1998 thanks to late farm leader Paul Mistele, has grown into Ontario Pork’s Friends of the Food Bank program. Regardless of what it is called, the goal has always been to get fresh, healthy, local protein to people in need.

Since 2013, Ontario Pork has generously committed $40,000 annually to purchase fresh, local pork for Ontario's food banks. They also challenge industry partners to get involved by matching this donation.

Thanks to the contributions of Ontario Pork, Ontario's hog farmers, and industry partners, this program has provided over 1.1 million servings of fresh Ontario pork to local and community food banks to support people facing hunger.
