Every 10 seconds, someone visits a food bank in Ontario.
For 30 years, Feed Ontario has partnered with communities to address these alarming numbers and to fight to end hunger and poverty in Ontario. Through fresh food, innovative programming, research, and the support of community members like you, Feed Ontario is driving change.
Through collective action we have, and can continue to, empower our communities by providing emergency food support and advocating for effective policy change that targets the root causes of food insecurity across the Province. Ending hunger is no small feat and every bit counts.
Here are 6 ways that you can #FeedChange and help fight hunger in your community:
1) Learn about the issues
Check out our research on the state of hunger in Ontario and the issues affecting food banks, and share our stories of hunger
2) Educate friends and family
Hunger has no one single face and the pandemic only further demonstrated that. Within the first 3 months, the number of people who accessed a food bank for the first time in Ontario increased by 26%. With many losing their jobs as a result of uncertain times, many people across the Province have had to lean on food banks for support. Champion education and talk with your family, friends, and co-workers about hunger and poverty, and the actions we can all take towards a hunger-free Ontario.
3) Advocate for change
Contact your local MPP, MP, and municipal representatives by email, phone, or social media to let them know you want policies that are pro-food security. Poverty and hunger can only be eradicated when there is systems level change. Learn more about Feed Ontario’s policy asks.
4) Share on social
Follow Feed Ontario on social media and share our content to keep up to date and to help spread the word about hunger and poverty in Ontario.
5) Start a fundraiser
Invite others to join you in the fight against hunger. Whether it’s to celebrate a birthday, as a team-building activity for your office, or a challenge among friends, a fundraiser is an excellent way to have fun and make a change in your community.
6) Volunteer at a food bank
Give back to your community by volunteering your time or lending your skills at your local food bank.
