Feed Ontario welcomes the introduction of the new Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit, which will provide essential support to more than 12 million people across Canada.
Yesterday’s announcement also includes a $20 million investment in the Local Food Infrastructure Fund to support food banks and hunger-relief organizations in delivering essential programs, a commitment to develop a National Food Security Strategy, and additional measures aimed at addressing rising food costs.
With a record number of people in Ontario turning to food banks for help, these investments are an important step towards providing immediate relief while laying the groundwork for addressing food insecurity long term.
Feed Ontario would also like to recognize the leadership of Food Banks Canada, hunger-relief organizations, partners, and advocates across the country for their tireless work in advancing these initiatives.
