Feed Ontario would like to recognize the Government of Ontario’s continued investments in programs and measures that are helping people manage the rising cost of living, particularly essentials like electricity, fuel, and transit. As more and more families are feeling financial strain, investments that help maintain and ideally reduce these costs are essential.
As we illustrated in our 2025 Hunger Report: Hunger Hurts Ontario, there is a direct connection between cost of living and food bank use. When the cost of basic necessities like housing and food rise, more people have no choice but to turn to food banks for help.
Through our network, we collect real-time food bank use data, which provides clear insight into how rising costs are impacting households and communities across the province. We will continue to monitor these trends closely, particularly during this unprecedented time of economic uncertainty.
We continue to encourage the Province to make meaningful investments that help Ontarians obtain quality employment opportunities, keep up with today’s cost of living, and access the supports they need to thrive. We also look forward to the timely release of Ontario’s new Poverty Reduction Strategy and to working collaboratively with the Province on ensuring it includes meaningful action to address the challenges people and families are facing.
